Oshkosh & AIRVENTURE!!

We're here!  Oshkosh, Wisconsin! !

What's here? The annual EAA Fly-in. Harold's been wanting to go for decades!  When we heard that grandson Aric was going to the fly-in this year, well, that was just another incentive for us to come to, too.

But getting here???  Friday morning, just after my last posting, the sky grew very, very dark and then - again! - lightning, thunder and torrential rain!

Our camp spot at "Paradise Resort" after the rain.
With the nearby river rising, we were fixing
to move to higher ground!!
Packed up and got outa there!

What a gorgeous drive up through northern Illinois, beautiful farmland and countryside and, always, those pretty blue wildflowers and Queen Anne's lace decorating the roadside.

Beautiful golden grain - lots of harvesting going on right now . . .

Also, MORE corn and MORE soybeans!

Soon . . . .

"Welcome to Wisconsin"

And more corn . . . mile after mile, acres and acres of it!

Saw a few quiet little towns like this one
Then Sunday afternoon . . . Here!  Oshkosh!  AIRVENTURE!

Aric with TeenFlight's RV-12, the plane he helped build!
Van's Aircraft designs innovative planes and sells kits to home-builders. TeenFlight is a program organized by Van's Aircraft in Aurora, Oregon.  Twelve teens, under the mentorship of a few volunteers, got together on Saturdays for over a year and built this great little airplane.  How cool is that?

Grampa had lots of questions about the plane.
(Of course, Aric had all the answers!)

Under the instrument panel, a plaque
signed by all the builders!
What Trixie liked?  The fields of clover!

Camp Scholler, the Airventure RV camp, at sunset.

Aric sure made this little kid's day!

Here's the RV-10 Aric flew out in from Portland - very NICE!

Harold's favorite plane - F4U Corsair!

Start of awesome air show!

Harold's brother-in-law Jimmy Wier is a glider pilot. The glider club he belongs to in Albuquerque was represented here by Bob Carlton, one of Jimmy's fellow flyers.

Bob makes a low vertical pass in his jet-powered sailplane!  Wow!
Jimmy - this picture's for you!

Lots of amazing, crowd-thrilling aerobatics . . .

Believe it or not, this is the Jelly Belly Interstate Cadet
landing ON TOP of a motor home!  Really!
He took off from up there, too!

Theresa the wing-walker performed some spectacular stunts.
That's all for now - gotta get going over to the airfield for what I'm sure will be another great day.

More later . . . .
